A gathering of the Clan Hunter, along with friends, took place on July 10, 2025, at Heritage Acres to celebrate the life of Tommy Hunter, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. Tommy passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2024, in Victoria, B.C., after a brief illness. He was born in Didsbury, Alberta, on September 24, 1957, and was the youngest of seven children.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Annie (Shearer), and his brother Gavin. He is survived by his siblings: Alexander (Donna, niece Teresa, nephews Bruce and Colin), Elizabeth (Betty, nephews Willie-Alex, Darcy, niece Christie Anne), Sister in law Rose, (nieces Carey and Sandra), Linda (Tom, nieces Lisa and Angela), Sandra (George, niece Erin, nephew Jeremy), and Jim (Jane, niece Megan, nephew Michael). Tommy also leaves behind many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Although he had no biological children, he embraced family and the families of his friends.
Tommy left school in Grade 11 to pursue a career in truck driving, but later earned his GED to further his education. At 18, he joined the military, serving his country for several years. After leaving the military, he qualified to drive large trucks and worked in the oilfields of Alberta and throughout British Columbia. Tommy was a dedicated and hardworking employee at various companies over the years.
“Family first” was his motto in life. He was always willing to help others and had a special love for four-legged furry friends, both his own and those of others. Tommy had a laugh that could be heard from miles away, and he enjoyed good conversations. He loved everyone’s company, and if you were his friend, he was always there for you. He is greatly missed by many whose lives he touched.
